open a file with nvim FILENAME. you start in normal mode, so keys are commands.

  1. h j k l — left, down, up, right
  2. x deletes the character under the cursor
  3. i then type, then esc — insert before the cursor
  4. A then type, then esc — append after the line
  5. esc :q! trash the buffer, or esc :wq to save and quit

capital A, not a. a appends after the cursor; A jumps to the end of the line first.

if something does nothing, you are still in insert. hit esc.
